Concordia College Selma

About Concordia College-Selma

Into the lives of families in the Black Belt Region of Alabama came young pioneer educator, Rosa J Young, bringing with her the first opportunity for higher education to African American youth in this part of the state. Her petition to the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod was heard and, not only did she establish Alabama Lutheran Academy, now Concordia College, over 120 Lutheran churches were formed in the Black Belt. These Christian institutions provided a wealth of students to be educated at Concordia, and for the past 87 years, Concordia College-Selma has propelled students from poverty into prosperity as ministers, physicians, business owners and teachers.

Now, these servants are in their communities fulfilling the mission of the institution: “preparing students through a Christ centered education for lives of responsible service to the church the community and the world.” New majors have recently been added to Business, Early childhood and Elementary Education including Social Work, Criminal Justice, and Leisure Studies. Both Associate and Bachelor Degrees are offered.
